Arizona Electronic Atlas Teaching ResourcesThis page provides resources to assist instructors in developing assignments that use the Arizona Electronic Atlas. We have written several learning modules as examples. In addition, we've included links to learning modules or web pages that have been developed to teach various geographic concepts. Learning Modules Arizona Electronic Atlas Training Module - The goal of this module is to help trainers conduct sessions which teach librarians, or others, how to effectively use the Arizona Electronic Atlas. The module is comprised of several sections, designed to work as one self contained unit. A training session using this module will take approximately 60-75 minutes to complete. Arizona's Ethnic Demographics - The goal of this module is to explore the distribution of various ethnic groups in Arizona and to consider the historical, social and economic factors that contributed to these patterns. Biotic Communities - The goal of this module is to gather relevant natural resources information for a specified stretch of highway in Arizona. Environment and Population - The goal of this module is to investigate the spatial relationship between EPA Superfund Sites and Hispanics in the Phoenix area. May want to use in conjunction with the Superfund Sites Module. Exploring Unemployment Rates by Gender - The goal of this module is to compare male and female unemployment rates across the counties and Indian reservations in Arizona. Income on Arizona's American Indian Reservations - The goal of this module is to explore differences in income between various American Indian Reservations and investigate possible causes for such differences. Investigating Health in Arizona - The goal of this module is to compare deaths from lung cancer and female breast cancer among Arizona counties and to analyze patterns of infant mortality among Arizona counties. Superfund Sites - The goal of this module is to use both the Arizona Electronic Atlas and the EPA Superfund website to obtain information about Superfund sites in Arizona. May want to use in conjunction with the Environment and Population Module. Links to Geography Web Pages Map Projections - Basic description of projections, how to decide which one to use, and descriptions of 17 projections. Map Scales - Basic explanation of scale with a description of various scales used on U.S. Geological survey maps, and a table giving conversions for various map scales. Topographic Mapping Topographic Maps - Tips & Hints U.S. Geological Survey Educational Materials - Includes links to various educational materials on general topics, earth hazards, water, plants and animals, maps and images, rocks and images and real-time information. Virtual Geography Department - Includes learning modules on the following topics: Cartography, Earth Environment and Society, Geographic Information Sciences/Remote Sensing/Statistics, History and Philosophy of Geography, Physical Geography, Urban and Economic Geography, Virtual Fieldtrips, World Regional Geography and Area Studies.
